LASF endorses particular Starfish Projects: small, start-up, creative, passionate, projects, typically with a visionary founder/leader/director; they blend laughter, humor, art, and science.

Debra Joy Hart is one of the Starfish projects endorsed by LASF, as well as the recipient of a grant. She used this grant to fund her 1000RedNoses trip to Komatsu Japan in 2014, where she produced thousands of smiles.

Debra Joy Has been an active member and Certified Laughter Leader (CLL) since January 2008. Becoming a CLL has increased Debra Joy’s leadership skills, business savvy and income. WLT teaches discernment between science of humor and laughter vs anecdotal evidence. Since 2008, she has earned the title of Certified Laughter Leader-Expert as well as Trailblazer. She is a frequent presenter at yearly World Laughter Tour Advanced Workshops.  Debra received her certification as a World Laughter Tour Joyologist in 2019.

Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor

The Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor (AATH) is non-profit, member driven, international community of humor and laughter professionals and enthusiasts.

Debra Joy has been part of this organization since 1995. This organization and its members have taught her healthy humor, that is both physiological and psychological. She has been both conference chair to this international organization as well as conference co chair. She is also a frequent speaker, and mentor to international students and thru the HUMOR ACADEMY (offered through AATH) she started 1000 Rednoses. Debra Joy graduated (via the HUMOR ACADEMY/3 year program) as a Certified Humor Professional in 2019.

ADEC offers numerous educational opportunities through its annual conference, courses and workshops, its certification program, and resources.

Centering Corporation

Centering Corporation is a non-profit (501 C-3) organization dedicated to providing education and resources for the bereaved. Centering was founded in 1977 by Joy and Dr. Marvin Johnson. Centering started with nine little coloring books for hospitalized children and two workshop offerings for nurses and families. In response to the need for support by families and caregivers while facing their grief experience we developed many new resources. Today we have over 500 grief resources for children and adults. Centering continues to provide educational resources and bookstore for caregivers and families.
